Martensitic Steel for Additive Manufacturing by Laser Powder Bed Fusion

EXAMPLE OF HOW TO USE THIS TOOL

The points in the diagram show compositions with varying melting interval (y-axis). The martensite forming temperature is shown in the x-axis.

The color bar to the right shows the fraction of ferrite. Grey points hav low or no ferrite, and dark red points have a high fraction of ferrite.

The green buttons to the left in the diagram shown the PREN number, and only the marked green values are shown in the diagram.

The composition of any point in the diagram is given by simply pointing the cursor on the point.

This tool helps in the selection of alloy compositions in a Fe-base alloy with Cr, Cr, Mo and Ni for additive manufacturing by laser powder bed fusion.

The melting interval can easily be visualised and minimized to lower the risk for hot tearing.

Simultaneously, the martensite forming temperature, the corrosion resistance (by the PREN number), and the primary phases can be controlled by selecting alloy compositions. Analysis of the effect of alloying on the different properties is easily made.
